Indian Davis Cupper Saketh Myneni outplayed Mohamed Safwat in straight sets to breeze into the singles quarterfinals of the Delhi Open but the country's singles challenge ended in the ITF women's event with the tame defeat of Dhruthi Venugopal here today.
Myneni, who is in red-hot form these days, made short work of his Egyptian rival 6-2 6-3 in a second round contest of the USD 100,000 ATP Challenger event on the Centre Court at the R K Khanna Tennis Stadium.
It proved to be a cakewalk for big serving Myneni as all he needed was just 47 minutes to dispatch his rival. He next takes on Belgium's Kimmer Coppejans, who defeated Portugal's Frederico Ferre Silva 6-3 6-2 in his second round match.
Myneni has already reached doubles quarterfinals with compatriot Sanam Singh, following their upset win over top seeds Fabrice Martin and Purav Raja.
Today, the second seeded pair of Divij Sharan and Moldova's Radu Albot were also knocked out. There were shocked 2-6 5-7 by wild card Indian pair of N Sriram Balaji and Vishny Vardhan.
In the women's USD 25,000 ITF event, India's Dhruthi bowed out after losing her second round match 2-6 4-6 to Slovakia's Tadeja Majeric.
Four other Indian girls, including number one singles player Ankita Raina and junior national champion Karman Kaur Thandi, had exited from the singles competition yesterday.
