Telangana government today raised the honorarium paid to public representatives in the urban and rural local bodies.
The salary of Zilla Parishad chairpersons, who have the status of a minister, has been hiked from Rs 7,500 to Rs 1,00,000, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said in the Legislative Assembly.
Among other Panchayat Raj representatives, the salary hike for Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) members is Rs 10,000 from Rs 2,250 earlier, Rs 10,000 from Rs 1,500 for Mandal Praja Parishad (MPP) Presidents, Rs 5,000 from Rs 750 for Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) members and Rs 5,000 from Rs 1,000-Rs 1,500 for Sarpanches.

Speaking in the Assembly, Opposition Leader K Jana Reddy of Congress favoured taking up irrigation projects in the state on a priority basis.
The chief minister agreed to the suggestion and said a meeting of MLAs would be organised to deliberate on the matter.
