Punjab government today said that it has completely banned the sale of loose cigarettes and other tobacco items as they do not bear the statutory pictorial health warning message.
An official spokesperson of the government said all the deputy commissioners have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the government directive.
The decision to this effect is taken as the loose items do not have the required pictorial health warnings on them, which was mandatory under section 7 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA 2003).
