Salem corporation to generate power from waste

The city corporation proposed to generate power from solid waste a t a cost of Rs 90 lakh.

Laying the foundation stone for the plant today, Mayor S Soundappan said a total of 300-350 ton of garbage was being collected in the city daily and 5,000 units of electricity could be produced using this.

The plant would start functioning in six months, he said adding the power generated by it would be utilised to operate street lights and motors used to pump drinking water to overhead tanks.
