In order to boost cold rolled stainless steel production, a senior steel ministry official today asked authorities of Salem Steel Plant - a special steel unit of Steel Authority of India Ltd - to expedite the commissioning of its third mill.
Upendra Prasad Singh, Joint Secretary in Steel Ministry,
- also a member of SAIL Board - stated this while winding up his two-day visit to the Salem Steel plant, which pioneered in the supply of wider width stainless steel sheets/coils in the country.

During his interaction with the plant officials, he told them to increase the volume of cold rolled stainless steel products for the "improvement of its bottomline," a company statement said here.
He wanted early commissioning of third 'sendzimir mill' to double its cold rolled stainless steel production, it said.
Singh, who inspected the steel melting shop, hot rolling mill and cold rolling mill at the plant, also advised the officials to step up cost reduction measures and further improve techno-economic parameters.
