Salem Steel Plant official get 3 yrs RI in cheating case

A CBI special court at Coimbatore today sentenced an official of Salem Steel Plant, a unit of Steel Authority of India Ltd, and another person to three years rigorous imprisonment in a cheating case.

A CBI release said Salem Steel Plant Senior Store Keeper, Materials Management, A Selvaraju and his accomplice R Sekar entered into "a criminal conspiracy to cheat the company in disposal of scrap material by fraudulent means".

"The two persons caused wrongful loss to Salem Steel Plant," it said, adding that CBI had registered cases against the duo under various IPC sections, including section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
 

CBI Special Court Judge N Muralidharan also imposed a fine of Rs 26,000 on the duo, it said.
