Salgaocar beat Clube 2-0, Prayag win in Junior I-League

Salgaocar FC defeated Sporting Clube De Goa 2-0 to top the points table while Prayag United tasted their first success defeating United Sikkim FC 2-1 in Group A matches of the 6th Junior (U-20) I-League tournament at JRD Tata Sports Complex here today.

In the first match, Prayag United defeated a struggling United Sikkim FC by 2-1. Prayag United took the lead through a strike from Bidhan Bala on the 8th minute of the match but Sikkim United restored parity with a 33rd minute through Rabin Tamang in the midst of attack and counter-attack to maintain the supremacy in the proceedings.
 

The score line read 1-1 at the lemon-break but Prayag United took control over the ball after the play resume.

The Kolkata outfit kept mounting the pressure in an attempt to score a winner and they succeeded in their effort when Jagannath Oraon netted the winner in the 78th minute.

United Sikkim and Prayag United have a bleak chances to move as they had one one and four points from three outings each while one more game was to go to complete the league engagement.

In the second match played at the same venue, Salgaocar had an easy outing as they edged past Sporting Clube de Goa 2-0 to top the point chart of the group with nine points from all three win ties.

With this win, Salgaocar were almost certain to make its place in the final round of the league to be commenced here from March 16

Sporting Clube De Goa successfully restricted Salgaocar from taking the upper hand and held them to a goalles till the half time.

Salgaocar's mid-fielder Rayman Fernandes opened the account with a 53rd minute strike while Mario Fernandes extended the lead on the 60th minute to seal the fate.

The winning margin could have been wider but for Sporting goal keeper, Rahul Yadav, who exhibited impressive skill under the bar.
