The 46-year-old actor, who flew down here in the wee hours, waved the green coloured ceremonial flag at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Thousands of enthusiasts from different age groups participated in the 21.09 km-long half-marathon and the shorter relay of 3 km.

Khan, dressed in a T-shirt and track pants, asked the participants of the 'Run for the Nation' to not only run for the prosperity of the country but also for spreading the message of doing away social evils like corruption.

The Bollywood actor, who had portrayed the role of a RAW agent in his film 'Ek Thaa Tiger', was accompanied by ITBP chief Ranjit Sinha and officials and personnel of the border guarding force during the event.

In the mens (open) category, Sandeep Kumar was declared the winner with a timing of 1:06:50 while Sudha Singh crossed the endline first in the womens (open) category at 1:20:34.

A number of participants, however, could not gain access to the stadium. "I had come here at 5 AM but the security guards are not letting me in as they want a verification of my registration for the event. No volunteers from the organisers side are present," South Delhi resident Subhendu Shukla said.

The presence of the 'Dabanng' actor also gave a tough time to the Delhi Police and ITBP personnel as many thronged the stadium to have a glimpse of the actor.

The half-marathon was organised by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police as part of its golden jubilee celebrations. The force was raised in 1962 to counter the Chinese aggression and at present, the about 50,000 personnel strong force guards the 3,488km long Sino-India border.
