Superstar Salman Khan, who had launched an online petition last year seeking the release of Sarabji, today condoled the death of the Indian prisoner.

49-year-old Sarabjit, who was brutally attacked in a high-security Lahore jail by fellow inmates on Friday, breathed his last in a Pakistani hospital after being comatose for nearly a week.

"Freedom at last hope they give him to his fly. We all tried, guess not hard enough. May god give his family strength and his soul rest in peace," Khan, 47, posted on Twitter.

Sarabjit was convicted of alleged involvement in a string of bomb attacks in Pakistan's Punjab province that killed 14 people in 1990 and spent about 22 years in Pakistani prisons.
