The 20th edition of Salwan Marathon, touted as the world's biggest cross country race for school children, will be held on November 2 here.

The organisers said that GPS-based chip technology and multiple cameras will be used to track the distance/location covered by each participant in the Under-18 boys category to ensure fair play.

The run will also witness participation of over 2000 visually impaired and intellectually challenged students run 4.5 kms with a volunteer.

Commenting on this year's edition, Salwan Marathon Spokesperson Samrata Diwan said, "We were both surprised and pained to find last year that the top 14 finishers in the Under-18 boys started the race mid way in an attempt to win, but were subsequently disqualified.

"That the students would cheat in Sports has not gone down well amongst the Sports fraternity and in order to ensure Fair Play, GPS-based chip technology and Multiple cameras will be used which will track the entire run scientifically," she said.

"The run is a part of Salwan's heritage of inspiring students through the euphoric power of running. The 20th edition of the run promises to be bigger and better, and we hope that it helps in getting more children into running," she added.
