Samahar to hold Brajanath Sharma theatre fest from Sep 9 to 15

Well-known theatre group Samahar Natya Gosthee today said it will hold its annual drama festival from September 9 to 15 this year in Guwahati.

The 30-year old city-based group has been organising a national theatre festival for the last seven years in the memory of father of Assamese mobile theatre Brajanath Sharma, who had brought woman on the stage and introduced co-acting in Assam in 1933.

"We take great pride to announce that like every year, this time also we are going to organise the 8th Annual Brajanath Sharma Memorial Drama Festival in September with participation of theatre groups from across Assam and outside," the statement said.
 

The festival will be held for seven days from September 9 to 15, 2014, at Rabindra Bhawan in Guwahati, it added.

The event has so far been supported by Government of India's Ministry of Culture and Assam Government's Cultural Affairs Department among others.

Brajanath Sharma was also a unique firebrand freedom fighter of the state who had destroyed and set ablaze the British aerodrome at Bornagar in Barpeta district.
