Sameer aims for a double

Unseeded Ojasvinee Singh remained the sole Indian in fray advancing into the girls singles final, while Sameer Kumar of the US kept himself in line for a double in the ONGC ITF Junior here today.

Ojasvinee struggled for two hours and and 42 minutes in a marathon battle to carve a 6-3 4-6 7-5 win over Karman Kaur Thandi the other Indian in the semis.

Ojasvinee will face American Raveena Kingsley who breezed past eight seeded Zhanlan Wei from China with a straight 7-5 6-1 victory.

In the boys singles, fifth seeded Sameer outclassed the young seventh seed from France, Geoffrey Blancaneaux, in a close 6-3 7-5 which lasted for one hour and 45 minutes.
 

Sameer will face Mandresy Rakotomalala of France in the boys singles final.

Sameer will seek to win a second title as he won the boys' doubles with Isa MammetGulyyev of Turkmenistan downing top seeded pair Wei De Lin and Cing Yang Meng of Chinese Taipei 3-6 6-4 (10-5).

The pair of Indonesia and Chinese Taipei, Rifanty Kahfiani and Fang Hsien Wu respectively lifted the girls double crown defeating the India duo of Vasanti Shinde and Ojasvinee 6-3 7-5.

Girls singles: Raveena Kingsley (USA) bt Zhanlan Wei (CHN)(8) 7-5, 6-1; Ojasvinee Singh bt Karman Kaur Thandi 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
