Sons of at least two senior politicians from Vidarbha region have sought tickets to contest the upcoming Assembly elections from Nagpur.
Sameer Meghe, the younger son of former Congress MP from Wardha Datta Meghe who switched over to BJP recently, is seeking ticket from Nagpur West seat, currently represented by BJP MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh.
While Ashish Deshmukh, son of former state unit Congress president Ranjeet Deshmukh, has staked his claim from Saoner seat in Nagpur Rural.
Nagpur district rural BJP president, Dr Rajiv Potdar is also interested in contesting from Saoner seat.
Sameer's elder brother Sagar had lost Wardha seat to Ramdas Tadas of BJP in recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections.
This came to fore during the visit by BJP observers here today to gauge the general mood.
Besides Sameer, names of Ramesh Chopde and Parinay Fuke are also doing the rounds to fight from this seat.
BJP is assigning special importance to Nagpur, the seat of RSS headquarters, in view of the upcoming elections, due later this year.
The observers for BJP, comprising the Mumbai unit party president Ashish Shelar and the party spokesperson Atul Bhatkalkar, found that no aspirant is willing to throw his hat in the ring from Nagpur South-West seat, currently represented by state unit BJP president Devendra Phadnavis.
The observers met a number of interested party workers and youth leaders at Ravi Bhavan here.
There are also no aspirants to contest Nagpur-East and Kamptee seats, currently represented by the city unit chief Krishna Khopde and Chandrashekhar Bawankule, respectively.
In Nagpur Central, besides sitting MLA Vikas Kumbhare, Dayashankar Tiwari, former chairman of the Standing Committee of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Archana Dehankar, former Mayor and Girish Vyas, the party spokesman, are seeking ticket.
Ticket-seekers for Nagpur North seat include Dr Milind Mane, Sandeep Gavai and others, whereas Nagpur South seat is allocated to Shiv Sena.
In Hingana, the sitting MLA Vijay Ghodmare, along with ZP president Sandhya Gotmare, is interested in contesting.
Umrer is reserved for SC candidate and is presently represented by Sudhir Parve.
The interested candidates today met the BJP observers at Ravi Bhavan here.
