Samiya, Aashi reach semifinals at Asia Junior Championship

Indian shuttlers Samiya Imad Farooqui and Aashi Rawat will face off tomorrow in the semifinals of Under-15 girls singles at the Asia Junior Championship here.

Third seed Samiya prevailed over Japan's Kaoru Sugiyama 14-21 21-13 21-13, while Aashi beat Japan's Sarono Yoshikawa 21-5 21-16 to advance to the semifinals here today.

However, it was a curtains for India in the men's singles Under-15 category after second seed Varun Kapur, Jayant Rana and Ayush Raj Gupta lost in the quarterfinals.

Varun went down 16-21 10-21 to Indonesian seventh seed mawardi Putra Damas, Jayant fought hard before losing 21-15 17-21 23-25 to Thailand's third seed Puritat Arree and Ayush suffered a 12-21 16-21 loss to Malaysia's Muhammad Fazriq Mohammad Razif.
 

Ayush, however, reached the semifinals in men's doubles category along with partner Shubham Patel, defeating Gerardo Rizqullah Hafidz and Rifky Cahaya Irhanza 21-16 21-18.
