Punjab BJP chief Vijay Sampla today expressed grief over the demise of the state's former Director General of Police (DGP) KPS Gill.

Gill, an IPS officer who earned the moniker 'supercop' for rooting out terrorism in Punjab with an iron hand, passed away today, succumbing to a kidney ailment at the age of 82.

"I am saddened to learn (of) Gill's demise," said Sampla.

The union minister extolled the virtues of the former DGP and said that he would always be remembered for eradicating insurgency from Punjab.

"He was known for his bravery and courage and he always inspired others by leading from the front," Sampla said.

"He will be remembered for his steadfast fight against terrorism and restoration of peace and normalcy in Punjab," he said.
