Maharashtra Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar and Chairperson of Samruddhi Cooperative Bank Kanchan Gadkari today launched the lender's first-ever RuPay Card in central India.

Lauding the initative, Mungattiwar said it was indeed a matter of pride that India has adopted its own bank card and thus became sixth country in the world to have its own card after China and Japan and others.

It was the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to open bank accounts of common man and have its own card rather than global cards like Masters, Visa, American Express and others, said the Minister.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in a short span facilitated the launch of RuPay Card and it has reached to small co-operative bank like Samruddhi, he added.

Kanchan, wife of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, said the bank has fixed deposits worth Rs 43 crore and has disbursed loan to the tune of Rs 24 crore.

Later, she told PTI that the lender has set a target of Rs 85 crore Fixed Deposit for this year and it will be raised to Rs 100 crore next year.

Kanchan, who took over the reins of the Bank on December 15, 2015, said initially 2,000 cards will be given to the bank customers now and it has open an ATM in one of its branch.

The bank had FDs worth Rs 35 crore last year and it has gone up in a short span, she added.
