Samvat year 2070 commenced with a big bang at the 'Muhurat' trading session here today as the benchmark BSE S&P Sensex hit a fresh lifetime high of 21,321.53 on all-round buying, amid sustained capital inflows from foreign funds.
The Bombay Stock Exchange 30-share index resumed better at 21,278.08 and firmed up further to a high of 21,321.53, before quoting at 21,255.65 at 1835 hrs, showing a gain of 58.84 points or 0.28 per cent from its last close.
The index had climbed to an all-time high of 21,293.88 in intra-day trade on November 1 but closed at 21,196.81.

The NSE 50-share Nifty also rose by 18.20 points or 0.29 per cent to 6,325.40 at 1835 hrs.
Major gainers were Tata Motors (1.48 pc), Jindal Steel (1.35 pc), BHEL (1.25 pc), Sun Pharma (1.12 pc), Tata Steel (1.09 pc), Maruti Suzuki (1.05 pc), ONGC (1.04 pc), Hindalco (1.00 pc) and SBI (0.72 pc).
Though there was no usual trading today, a special 'Muhurat' trading session is permitted on the stock markets for a limited period from 18.15 hrs to 19.30 hrs.
