Following the alleged custodial death of an accused, the Maharashtra home department today transferred Sangli superintendent of police Datta Shinde and his deputy Dr Dipali Kale.

Shinde will be replaced by Suhail Sharma, who was Additional Superintendent of Police in Kolhapur and part of the SIT formed to investigate the communist leader Govind Pansare murder case.

Shinde has been now appointed the Commandant of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Group-4 in Nagpur, while Deputy Superintendent of Police Dr Dipali Kale has been shifted to Solapur as an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Aniket Kothale, arrested by the Sangli city police in a robbery case, died in police custody earlier this month, triggering a controversy.

A show cause notice was served to SP Datta Shinde and DySP Kale by the Special Inspector General of Police, Kolhapur range, Vishwas Nangare Patil.

Both the officers were also called for enquiry by the Crime Investigation Department.
