The government is training people at grass-roots level to bring behavioral change among the rural populace to enhance the efficacy of its efforts for sanitation, a senior official has said.
"While the infrastructure is being put in place and awareness programmes are being run, it's the ground level personnel who can bring behavioral change. There is work going on to put and train personnel at village level," Drinking Water and Sanitation secretary Parmeswaran Iyer was quoted in a statement issued by research services organisation Sambodhi.
Iyer also agreed with the suggestion of NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, who was also present at an event organised by Sambodhi yesterday, that as the sense of competition among states for doing business has worked well and a parallel may be drawn on sanitation.
The event saw participation of 120 organisations from public and private sector to deliberate on national development agenda within the framework of sustainable development goals.
