Sanjay Dutt to perform in Pune theatre for fund-raising event

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who is undergoing jail term at Yerawada jail here, will participate along with the inmates in a fund-raising event to be held at landmark Balgandharva auditorium here on September 26.

Dutt, convicted by Supreme Court for illegal possession of arms in 1993 Mumbai blasts case, will be among 50 members who will be participating in the event organised by the jail authorities to raise money for the prison department employees, said jail superintendent Yogesh Desai.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Home Minister R R Patil are likely to attend the cultural show featuring popular Hindi and Marathi songs.
 

The two-hour programme at the landmark theatre in central Pune was being rehearsed by the select prisoners who would be dancing to the tune of hit songs, Desai said.

Asked about security aspect, the official said "adequate arrangements" are being made to bring and escort back the "performing artistes" to the facility.

Dutt (53) had been shifted to the penitentiary on May 22 to serve the remainder of 42 months sentence.
