Sanjita, Ramana take opening day honours

Kh Sanjita Chanu of Manipur and Ramana Korada of West Bengal took the opening day honours by sweeping the three gold on offer in the women's 48kg and men's 56kg respectively in the 66th Men and 29th Women Senior National Weightlifting Championships here today.

Sanjita lifted 79kg in snatch and 100kg in clean and jerk for a total of 179kg as she bagged all the three gold in the women's 48kg category.

Another Manipuri, S Mirabai Chanu won all the three silver medals in the event while B Usha of Andhra Pradesh bagged all the three bronze.

In men's 56kg, Ramana lifted 113kg in snatch and 141kg in clean and jerk for a total of 254kg as he bagged all the three gold in the category.
 

260 weightlifters (164 men and 96 women) are taking part in the four-day event held at the District Sports Complex.
