Around 24,000 citizens, including students of various schools, took part in the 25th Thane Mayor Marathon Run held today.
While Santosh Kumar Singh of Western Railways won the 21-km run in men's category by clocking 1:09:30, Sanjeevani Jadhav from Nashik completed distance of 15-km in 1 hour 18 seconds to emerge victorious in women's category.
Thane Municipal Corporation commissioner Aseem Gupta said the civic body distributed t-shirts, worth Rs 12 lakh, to children of civic schools who participated in the run.
The event had its political overtones as leaders from Congress and NCP did not attend it with Shiv Sena, the ruling party in TMC, dominating the function.
Among those attended the event are Kalyan MP Srikant Shinde, MLA Pratap Sarnaik, Thane district chief of Shiv Sena Ekanth Shinde, city Mayor H S Patil, besides celebrities from Marathi film industry.
