BJP leader Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri today termed as a "cold blooded murder" the death of Sarabjit Singh following a brutal assault on him in Pakistani jail and said the issue was a diplomatic failure for the Centre.

"Sarabjit's family members had acquainted the Centre time and again about a threat to his life in jail, still it did not act in time which eventually led to his death," Khanduri said in a statement here.

Asserting that timely follow up action by the UPA could have prevented Sarabjit's tragic end, the former Uttarakhand chief minister accused the Centre of failing to build pressure on Pakistani authorities through diplomatic channels to step up security around the death row prisoner.

"Indian government is as much responsible for Sarabjit's killing as the Pakistani government," he said terming the incident as an embarrassment for the nation.
