Renowned Hindustani musician Sarathchandra Marathe passed away after a brief illness last night at the Kozhikode medical college hospital, according to family sources. He was 84.
Marathe was suffering from age-related diseases and was admitted to the hospital last week. He is survived by his wife.
Marathe, who stole the hearts of music lovers in the late 1960s and 70s, was a native of Maharashtra.

Marathe had composed music for a few Malayalam films including 'Uppu', 'Mayoora Varnangal', 'Chanjattam' and 'Avivahitharude Swargam'.
The body will be kept at the town hall here this morning for people to pay their last respect to the musician.
He had also won several awards including 'Gurupooja award' of Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Academy and Mohammed Rafi memorial award.
