Sarnath Express stopped as police search for Maoists

Police today conducted an intensive search in the Sarnath Express on a tip off that some suspected armed criminals, who might be Maoists, were travelling in the train, an official said here.

Chetganj area Circle Officer Rakesh Kumar Singh said a tip off was received from an informer that some suspected armed criminals, who might be Maoists, were travelling in S-5 bogie of the train.

He said that following the tip off police was alerted in Bhadohi as well as in Varanasi. When the train reached platform number five of Varanasi Cantt railway station police conducted an intensive search inside all the bogies, however, nothing was found.
 

Sarnath Express later departed from here to Chhapra in Bihar after a small halt at the Cantt railway station, Singh said.
