A sarpanch was today arrested by the Rajasthan Anti Corruption Bureau while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in Awar district for getting a land record done.

Acting on a complaint by Sanjay Kumar Soni, the Anti Corruption Bureau laid a trap and caught the sarpanch of Chuhadpur Gram Panchayat in Tijara Tehsil, Balbeer Singh, red-handed.

According to the complainant, he had earlier paid the sarpanch Rs 10,000 for getting a plot of land, purchased in his wife's name, entered in revenue records.

He also claimed to have paid Rs 5,000 to patwari (revenue official) Karan Singh, police said.

Soni approached the ACB when the sarpanch demanded more money.

"After verification of the complaint, a team of the bureau officials laid a trap and caught the public representative when he was taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 today," Inspector General of ACB Smita Srivastava said.

The sarpanch has been arrested and the role of the patwari is being examined, Srivastava said.
