Sarv Jat Khap Samiti, an umbrella body of khap panchayats across Haryana which spearheaded the reservation movement for Jats in the state, today honoured Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for his "efforts" in ensuring reservation to the community.

Sarv Jat Khap Samiti president Nafe Singh Nain and several leaders of the community were present during a function at the historic Chabutra of Darodra village in Jind.

Haryana's PWD minister Randeep Singh Surjewala was also present at the function, presided over by Nain.

Speaking at the occasion, Hooda said,"reservation was the right of Jats which they have got."

The chief minister also praised Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her contribution in getting the reservation to Jats.

The Union Cabinet on March 2 approved the inclusion of the Jat community in the Central list of OBCs for the states of Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarrakhand, Uttar Pradesh and the National capital territory of Delhi.

Hooda said other deserving communities should also get reservation in Central government jobs as it will benefit poor people of different communities.
