Former AIADMK leader V K Sasikala, who is serving a sentence in a disproportionate assets case at a Bengaluru prison, on Thursday moved the Madras High Court to set aside questions put to her by a lower court through video conference on the J J TV Private Limited issue.
Justice Anand Venkatesh before whom the plea came up adjourned the matter to September 3 after counsel for Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a counter.
The case by the ED relates to hiring transponders by the firm from outside India. The payment made abroad by the firm was without RBI permission and was in violation of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, it had submitted.
Sasikala submitted that she was not responsible for day to day affairs of the company and cannot be questioned about its affairs.
In its counter, counsel for the ED contended that Sasikala was well aware of the firm's activities and therefore she can answer charges made against the company put forth by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Economic Offences-I) Egmore.
Counsel submitted that Sasikala along with MD V Bhaskaran was liable for the offence committed by the company.
