He was 86.

Goswami was the head of one of the oldest sattras or monasteries in Majuli, which is the world's largest river island and seat of Vaishnav culture.

The monastery was established in the 15th century by Madhavdeva, a disciple of Sankardeva, who was the founder of Vaishnavism in Assam.

The sattraadhikar was later cremated within the sattra premises, sources added.
