Saudi cadet wins laurels in sailing regatta

Saudi Arabia made a clean sweep of all three events on the opening day of the fifth International Sailing Regatta for Admiral's Cup organised by the Indian Naval Academy here.

Cadet Ebrahim Bin Sameer Al Shuwaitar of Saudi Arabia won all the three races held at the Ettikulam Bay today.

The five-day event has participation of teams from Australia, Bangladesh, Bahrain, China, Egypt, France, Fiji, Germany, Mauritius, Oman, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, UAE, USA, United Kingdom, apart from India, a Defence

The azure blue waters of the Ettikulam Bay will witness a total of nine races run during the event. The course laid out was in keeping with international standards.
 

The event has become popular since its inception in 2010 attracting total of 36 participants in its latest edition, which included women from Australia and Germany.

As hosts, the Indian Navy, fielded two teams, one each from INA and National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla.

On the side-lines of the event, a kids zone, beach volleyball facility, 3-hole golf course, merchandising shop and refreshment counter had also been set up for the spectators and teams.
