The Supreme Court today expressed its anguish that there was "intrusion" in the functioning of CBI, requiring it to be "liberated" from "political influence and interference" so that the pride of the investigating agency could be restored.
The apex court, which was furious on the interference by government into the coalgate scam probe, said it was the need of the hour to ensure that CBI does not have to move with the "crutches of political executive".
"You don't have to move with the crutches of political executive," a bench headed by Justice R M Lodha said, asking the agency not to "suppress" its ongoing probe in coal blocks allocation scam under any "political influence".
"The first thing we have to do is to liberate CBI from such type of things. We have to liberate CBI from extraneous considerations, political influence, intrusions and other interference," the bench, also comprising justices Madan B Lokur and Kurien Joseph, said.
