The Supreme Court today directed the Registrar General of the Bombay High Court as well as the trial court, hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter killing case, to submit their reports on the status of the trial in the case.
"The Registrar General of the Bombay High Court as well as the learned trial court has failed to comply with the order of this Court dated September 22. Be that as it may, both the aforesaid authorities i.E. Registrar General of Bombay High Court and trial court will submit their reports as earlier directed on or before November 6," a bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi said.
The Court directed that the Supreme Court registry to communicate this order to the Registrar General of the Bombay High Court and the trial court immediately and fixed the plea of suspended IPS officer Sanghian Pandian Rajkumar, one of the accused, against his prosecution in the fake encounter case on November 6.
The Supreme Court had, while granting bail to Pandian, asked the Bombay and Gujarat High Courts to render assistance to the trial court in Mumbai by providing translated copy of the judicial records.
During the hearing, the bench asked CBI whether the translation of records is complete or not. It also sought to know the status of the trial in the case.
Sheikh and his wife were allegedly abducted by Gujarat's Anti-Terrorist Squad from Hyderabad and killed in a suspected fake encounter near Gandhinagar in November 2005.
