The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a plea by the Telangana government seeking fresh allocation of waters of river Krishna among four riparian states which also include Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra and Karnataka.
A bench of Justices M B Lokur and P C Pant dismissed the appeal filed by the Telangana government against the order of a tribunal headed by former apex court judge Brijesh Kumar, alloting 1005 TMC feet of water given to undivided Andhra Pradesh among residuary Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The state government had also asked the apex court for a direction to the Centre not to rush with notifying the tribunal verdict of October last year.
It had also sought constitution of special tribunal to deal with the allocation of Krishna waters afresh amongst the four riparian states.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra said the Supreme Court's refusal to entertain the Telangana government's plea seeking fresh allocation of waters of river Krishna among four riparian states which also include Andhra Pradesh has make it clear that the water share of the BJP-ruled state will not be affected.
"The Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal (KWDT) had passed its final order in 2010 and 2013. Andhra Pradesh was divided in 2014 as per AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 leading to creation of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
"So, Telangana's demand that it be given fresh hearing and that there be fresh allocations was not considered by a bench of judges Madan Lokur and PC Pant," Deepak Nargolkar, who represented Maharashtra in the court, told reporters.
Today's decision, he said, also makes it clear that Maharashtra's share 666 TMC of water of river Krishna, remains unaffected.
"The court also made it clear that how to share 1005 TMC water is a matter to be solved between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh," Nargolkar said.
Adjudicating the matter, the KWDT had allocated 1,005 TMC water to then undivided Andhra Pradesh and 907 TMC to Karnataka.
