The Supreme Court today sought a response from the Centre on a plea seeking a probe by CBI or Special Investigating Team (SIT) into the killing of a teenaged Bangladesh girl by a BSF jawan at Indo-Bangla border in West Bengal in 2011.

A bench, comprising Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justices Arun Mishra and Amitava Roy, also issued notice to BSF and sought its response on the petition filed by the victim's father Nur Islam questioning the clean chit given twice by the BSF special court to the constable accused of firing upon the girl.

Fifteen-year-old Felani Khatun was shot dead allegedly by BSF constable Amiya Ghosh while she and her father were on their way to their village in Bangladesh through Anantapur border in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram on January 7, 2011.

Senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, along with lawyer Divya, argued the plea of the victim's father challenging the aquittal of the constable in 2013 and later in July this year after a retrial.
