A bench comprising justices K S Radhakirshnan and J S Khehar passed an order after the Medical Council of India said it had no objection to e-counselling and Centre's senior counsel Ashok Bhan sought permission for conducting the counselling.

Pointing out that the court had already approved online admissions for post-graduate medical courses, the bench said the facility would now stand extended to under-graduate courses as well.

The e-counselling, which exempts the candidates from personal appearance, would be conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services from July 24. The process is expected to continue till September 30.

The National Informatics Centre has developed the software for the online admissions.
