The CPI(M) today termed as "unfortunate" a Supreme Court order rejecting petitions seeking an independent probe into Judge B H Loya's death and demanded a review of the matter by a larger bench.
Addressing the media on the second day of the party congress here, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said all investigations or judicial proceedings suggested that the matter needed to be properly probed in order to reach to the bottom of the truth.
"This dismissal or rejection of all the petitions is very unfortunate. The CPI(M) demands that this matter be reviewed by a larger bench of the Supreme Court and it must be done in the interest of delivery of justice," he said.
Yechury also expressed unhappiness over the bench saying that attempts were made to scandalise the judiciary by levelling serious allegations against judicial officers and judges of the Bombay High Court.
The Supreme Court today dismissed pleas seeking an independent probe into the alleged mysterious death of Loya, ruling that the judge died of natural causes and that the petitions were a serious attempts to scandalise and obstruct the course of justice.
Loya, who was hearing the high-profile Sohrabuddin Sheikh case, had allegedly died of cardiac arrest in Nagpur on December 1, 2014 when he had gone to attend the wedding of a colleague's daughter.
