SC seeks Centre's reply on PIL for doubling number of judges

The Supreme Court on Thursday sought response from the Centre on a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a direction for doubling the number of judges as recommended by the Law Commission.

A bench comprising Chief Justice T S Thakur and Justice R Banumathi issued notice to the Ministry of Law and Justice and Ministry of Finance on the plea filed by BJP leader and lawyer Ashwani Kumar Upadhyay.

The PIL has also sought a direction to implement the resolution of the advisory council of the National Mission for Justice Delivery and Legal Reforms.
