A Bench of Justices Altamas Kabir and J Chelameswar issued notices to the state government and some of its departments on the allegations of Rajasthan Patrika, which brings out an edition from Raipur, that they were taking action against them which was coming in way of their fundamental rights of free speech and expression.

The daily, which in its petition levelled several allegations against the state machinery, said that cases of defamation and FIRs are being filed against its staff at the behest of the Chief Minister and its office has also become the target.

The petition has also named Chief Minister Raman Singh as one of the six respondents.

Among various prayers, the daily has also sought CBI probe or appointment of committee headed by sitting or retired judge of High Court or Supreme Court into allegations of mining scam in the state.
