SC, ST protesters clash with police in Jammu

Employees of scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities who are demanding continuance of reservation benefits in promotions, clashed with police who resorted to cane charge and tear gas shelling to prevent them from marching to Civil Secretariat here.

A large number of protesters mostly employees started a protest rally from Indira Chowk and marched towards Civil Secretariat raising anti-government slogans and demanding continuance of reservations in promotions.

As they reached near Shalimar Chowk, they were stopped by police from moving ahead toward Civil Secretariat but the protesting employees broke the barricades and clashed with police.

Police had to resort to cane charge and tear gas shelling and prevented them from moving ahead. Later they were dispersed.
