The Supreme Court today stayed the execution of a condemned prisoner who was convicted for killing five members of a family in Chhattisgarh in 2004.
A vacation bench headed by Justice Vikramajit Sen stayed the execution of Sonu Sardar after his counsel argued that similar petitions filed by 1993 Bombay blasts convict Yakub Memon and Red Fort attack convict Mohammed Arif are pending in the apex court and was referred to constitution bench.
The bench then referred the plea of Sonu, currently lodged in Raipur jail, to the constitution bench.
