The Supreme Court today stayed a Madras High Court order directing the Tamil Nadu government to permit the establishment of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in the state.
A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud stayed the September 11 order of the High Court's Madurai bench asking the state government to allot land for establishment of Navodaya Vidyalayas.
The appeal against the High Court order was filed by the state government.

The state government, in its counter, had stated that under the Tamil Nadu Tamil Learning Act, 2006, it followed a two-language system of having Tamil and English as medium of instruction.
