Leading an agitation here against the 'failures' of NDA Government, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Nirmal Khatri today alleged that scams in BJP-ruled states have Prime Minister's "silent approval".

The "silence" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on scams in BJP-ruled states proved his "silent approval", he alleged.

The agitation was a part of Congress' state-wide protest to highlight the "failures" of Modi government, the "anti-farmer" Land Acquisition Bill, and Vyapam scam.

Modi who had been making tall claims during Lok Sabha election campaign is also silent on his "unfulfilled promises", Khatri alleged.

All the district units of Congress in the state took out tableau marches in their respective areas and burnt effigies of the Prime Minister which allegedly led to clashes at some places.

Partymen took to streets to apprise people about the "conspiracy" behind Land Bill, lack of action against External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh CMs Vasundhra Raje and Shivraj Singh Chauhan respectively and no breakthrough on bringing back black money, the UP Congress chief said.

Khatri said the agitation was successfully held in Ghaziabad, Gautam Budhnagar, Mathura, Kanpur, Varanasi, Bijnore, Lakhimpur, Unnao, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Moradabad and Sambhal among other places.

In Tundla area of Firozabad, BJP workers clashed with Congressmen when the effigy was being burnt after which police arrested Congress district president Hari Shankar Tewari and his supporters, he alleged.

In Basti also there was an altercation with BJP workers but later the effigy was burnt as per the programme, he added.
