Billed as Asia's biggest youth festival,the state school art festival got underway here today with nearly 10,000 budding artistes from schools across Kerala slated to compete for honours in a variety of arts, song, dance and theatrical performances over the next seven days.
The event had a colourful start with a cultural procession that winded through the streets of the town on its way to the main venue of the event.
Chief Minister Ommen Chandy inaugurated the festival through video-conferencing from the state capital.
Education Minister P K Abdurabb presided over the inaugural function.
