School children on 'Run for Rio' marathon in Puducherry:

Seeding of sporting spirit begins in the schools and there should be sustained initiatives to promote sports to keep the young fit, Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today said.

She was speaking after flagging off the 'Run for Rio' marathon organised by Directorate of School Education on the beach road here to generate awareness about the ongoingRio Olympics 2016.

Chief Minister V.Narayanasamy joined hands with the Lt Governor to flag off the marathon amidst thunderous cheers and applause by school children.

More than 600 students from various institutions took part in the three-km long run.

Bedi said seeding of sports began at schools and there should be regular walkathon on the beach road by the young and the old every month end.
 

Welcoming the suggestion, Narayanasamy said this walkathon would be of great help to keep people fit.
