A 14-year-old school girl has

allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the house when her parents were away, reportedly unhappy at being forced to do household chores.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and have begun investigations.

The girl, belonging to a tribal community in Peravoor in the district had returned from school yesterday and took the extreme step after finding that she had to cook meals, police said.

Police have recovered a suicide note stating that she was unable to do household work and continue her studies.

However, there were reports in a section of the media that the tenth standard student had ended her life unable to bear starvation.

Denying that she was being starved, her father told a television channel that he had failed to meet her plea for a bicycle and this could have prompted her to end her life.

The girl's parents work in a cashew farm and had gone for work at the time of the incident.

Only her paternal grandmother was at home.
