School student murdered in Alappuzha dist

An 18-year-old school student died after he was beaten up allegedly by his classmates and few others said to be RSS activists, over a quarrel at Vayalar in the district, police said today.

The attack on higher secondary student, Ananthu during a temple festival in the locality last night was a sequel to a quarrel between him and some of his classmates, they said.

As the group hit him repeatedly, Ananthu fainted and died on the spot.

Ten persons including, five of his classmates have been taken into custody in connection with the incident, police said.

Protesting the attack, Congress and CPI-M have given a call for a hartal in the district tomorrow.
