School teacher, son washed away in Tawi river

A woman and her four-year-old son were washed away in the Tawi river after they fell into it while crossing a bridge in Latti town of Udhampur district today.

Santosh Kumari, a school teacher, a resident of Pachond village and her were washed away into the river, police said.

However, villagers saved another student who had also fell into the river with them.

"The boy was saved and admitted to a hospital, but the body of the mother-son duo, who have been feared drowned has not been located so far," the officer said.

Senior Superintendent of Police Udhampur, Mohammed Suleman Chowdhary, said, "Yes, the mother-son duo fell in the river while crossing a bridge. The bridge made of wood had developed some cracks from where they fell. The police and the CRPF is on the spot to recover the bodies.
