Toilets in all schools in the districts of Erode, Coimbatore and Tirupur would be cleaned, keeping in mind the health and hygiene of the students, Tamil Nadu Minister A Sengottaiyan said today.
The first phase of the toilet-cleaning project, sponsored by the Rotary Club International, would take off in September, Education Minister said while inaugurating 'smart classes' at a government higher secondary school here.
Under the project, the club has granted 1,000 vehicles which would go to every government, municipal and panchayat school, clean the toilets and septic tanks, he said.
In the first phase, toilets in 20,000 schools would be cleaned and it would be implemented in other districts on phased manner.
The minister said he has been getting complaints of the many inactive parents, teachers associations in government schools and added that such associations would be wound up and new office-bearers be put in place.
He also said the state government would appoint teachers who have passed the Teachers Recruitment Board examination.
