A schoolteacher has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a Class IV student in Padahar area of Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district, police said today.
Mandi Superintendent of Police (SP) R P Negi said the teacher, Pune Ram, was arrested yesterday after a complaint was filed by the girl's father.
According to the complaint, the accused molested and sexually assaulted the girl on March 22 at the primary school in Padahar subdivision of Mandi.
The complainant also alleged that the accused tried to hush up the matter.
The SP said the teacher had been booked under various sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused was today produced before Judicial Magistrate No. 4 Gitika Kapila, who remanded him in three days' police custody.
The girl's statement was also recorded under section 164 of the CrPC.
