Sweltering heat today prevailed in Punjab and Haryana with maximum temperatures soaring to a few notches above normal at most places in both states.
With mercury remaining above the 40 degrees Celsius mark at most of locations, the MeT department predicted that the maximum temperature would further rise by two to three degrees during this week.
Hisar was the hottest place in both states with a maximum of 44 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, the MeT department said here today.

In Punjab, Amritsar and Ludhiana had maximum of 42 and 42.4 degrees Celsius, while Patiala settled at 42.5 degrees, three points above normal.
The Union Territory of Chandigarh had a high of 41.6 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal.
Weather will remain dry in Punjab and Haryana in the next 24 hours, the MeT department said.
